What's the weirdest, scariest, or funniest thing you've seen? | Weirdest: guy taking a crap in the store in the clothes. Or all the weird things people wear. Or the customer smoking crack in the bathroom. Scariest? The persom who held up me and my other associate at our money center. Funniest? Dog got loose in the store, crashed into the baby food and slip while three managers, one who was dressed as a dinosaur for a promo event, chased it then all fell. |
My best try. | That. Fucking. Rules. Upboats foe you sir. For days. |
That was me taking a crap in the clothes. Mouahahahaha. Joking, I wish. | you assmonkey |
That dog pursuit made me laugh | The announcements that day were amazing! 'Someone catch the dag! CATTTCCCHHH IIITTT!' |
Dag? | "Imma Daaawwwggg!" |
How do you deal with shoplifting? I once saw a guy get tackled and arm locked by a Walmart employee who was pulling clothes out from under the shoplifter's shirt. | Technically, average employees like me can't do anything. Only our asset protection and/or managers can. However, I've 'casually' knocked over a wrapping paper roll display, causing a would be thief to trip and delayed him long enough for AP to get there. I work in electronics so we get a LOT of stealing. |
As a Kmart employee I can confirm this. We have one employee who walks around in normal clothes looking for shoplifters. How much action he is allowed to take, I don't know. | We have a team of five at my store. |
I'll be trying to spot these undercover agents next time I go to walmart, never knew that they did these kind of things to stop shoplifting. | Theyre hard to spot. only way to tell is the ear piece but they normally have it covered up somehow. hats and collars, hoodies, stuff like that. |
I Used to work at Walmart in Electronics as well we had at least two plain clothes people that walked around the store and watched people. | When I first started I thought the one guy was just there all the time. I thought he was a customer XD no one told me for the longest time! |
They finally had to tell me to not greet him T-T.
Have you ever had to work hours you weren't paid for? | Nope. I want to get paid for the hours I work. Plus, I'm so clumsy I'd be that one asshole that gets hurt working while off the clock. |
Are they as anti-union as documentaries would have us believe? | Oh absolutely. even talking about unions can get you in trouble. They'll quickly find some BS reason to fire you. |
Do they give small raises pretty frequently but cut back hours to compensate so you make about the same as before? i was told this by a coworker that used to work at Walmart. | I haven't gotten a raise yet, but they don't do it like that at my store in particular. That's something that can vary from store manager to store manager. |
What is the worst customer you've ever had to deal with? | Worst customer. Depends. Are you asking which customer I hate the most, or the one that was the most difficult to deal with? |
I'll go with both. Repeat customer or customer type you hate the most. Single worst customer experience in the history of forever. | Okay. Worst repeat customer. Its a couple that comes in. She's nasty. Both rude nasty and haven't showered/bearded lady nasty. He, and this is the worst part, is a convicted pedophile who brags about it. He'll tell anyone about the fact that he was in jail for x amont of time and why. I want to stab him in the head with my sparkley blue pen so badly. Whenever he's in I have to leave the sales floor. |
Worst single time? Guy comes in late at night, probably close to two am. I'm off work at three am. He's greasy and sweaty and really smelly. But beyond that he's creepy as hell. The type of guy that you just know there's something wrong. He spends half an hour asking me essentially the same question over and over again just worded differently. The entire time he's staring at my chest (admittedly its big but still.) He wont leave me alone and I'm the only one on the floor in my area. He leaves after a while. When i clock out and head to my car he's there in the employee lot. I have to turn around and eun back into my store. Cops called and he's gone. He's come back a couple of times but I havent been there. Cops patrol lot often now.
I think it's more along the lines of getting a little pampered, feeling a little special. Just like this "Sir" and "Ma'am" bullshit in the stores -- I'm not a knight, or the superior of these people, I just buy stuff there. I usually Sir them back out of annoyance, which confuses a lot of them. | I sir or ma'am only when its someone much older, for respect, or military to show respect. otherwise not at all. |
Holy shit a stalker? You say he's only been back a couple times but not when you're around...has anyone else fell into the category of stalker? Also, it's made made to believe (documentary) that Walmart parking lots are rather unsafe. Is this true?? | No other personal stalkers here but it has happened to others. Its totally unsafe in the parking lots. Other storea have had employees raped and kidnapped. |
What kind of security does walmart have for employees? | We kind of don't, at least at my store.higher profile stores do. We have management and ap and big burly coworkwes lol. |
Pics or it didn't happen. | Meh. Might post a pic when i get home. Will be SFW of course. |
It did happen. Pic's below.
Where do you live, Detroit? The most we have here is the occasional squabble between two trashy girls, or kids setting off fireworks. | Nope. I live in New England. Those crazy new englanders Xd |
Wow. Did not expect to get anything out of that. | See below :P. |
What exactly is supposed to be going on with the Black Friday strike/boycott? | People are upset that we're open on Thanksgiving. Personally I dont mind. I'm honestly just thankful to have a job. It started with a lady at Target bitching because she has to work at seven that night. Nothing will happen because consumerism > family values anyday. |
Dude, I'm fine to work on Thanksgiving. It's whaat I was hired for, why bitch about it? | Exactly. I dont mind working at all. |
That last sentence hit a little hard. | Sadly the truth. : / |
Are you forced to work? At Kmart unless you take vacation or have a doctors note you have to work thanksgiving, black Friday, and the weekend after or get the boot. | We're blacked out from taking vacations or days off other than those scheduled since two days back. I work thanksgiving and black friday. |
it was at seven at fucking night. She would have still been able to eat with her family. | Exactly! I go in at 730 pm, so the fucks the problem? Lazy people, that's what. |
I see. It irks me because I'm a part time employee not full time. Question: Which authority figure or figures is coolest. For me my front register supervisors can be cool, the store manager as well, but not human resources. | For me... hm. I love my csm and my boys in Electronics that have been there much longer than I. I adore my jewelry and my toys/photo managers. |
Worst is one of the AMs. She a lazy bitch. And she hates me for reporting her once.
What did you report her for, and how did that end? | She hired someone off the streets to be management, ONLY becuase they are besties. its incredibly wrong. Plus she's a huge bitch, and wont help anyone with anything. |
CSM/AM? Those are not terms I know. | Customer service managers and assistant managers. |
Hello fellow walmartian. 1) did you get the employee appreciation discount for november? did you use it yet? 2) is your back room a disaster? 3) awesome or shitty night crew? 4) since you work in electronics, do you have to wait for forever for a csm? | 1) not yet. Can only use it after black friday. 2) oh god yes. Specially right now. Sooo many tvs for black friday. Gah. 3) both. Awesome cause theyre fast. Awful cause theyre perverted assholes. 4) ugh. So long. Specially aince all but one is old as fuck and takes them forever to walk back. |
What is the employee appreciation discount? | 10% on selected items most of the year. Now its 10% on anything but cigs booze and firearms. |
I work at store 0100, right across from the home office and we have to wait for days for a CSM. edit: I work in electronics as well. | Isnt that the mosy frustrating thing ever? Specially when you need change. |
We don't hurry with change because %99 of the time you can use other change to make it work or round up. That, and you should not wait till you are out to say you need change :P. | When youre glued to a register with no time to spare, it gets hard to ask. plus we normally just bum change off the other drawer, so sometimes we get around to no change alot sooner than we expect. |
Yeah ,My store is right across the street from the home office. So between getting home office people and not having enough csm's. It gets pretty frustrating. | I so dont envy you lol. That has to suck big donkey balls. |
Yeah, I cry sometimes. But working for Walmart isn't as bad as people make it out to be. | Its actually a really good job if you work well enough. |
What's the pay like? My friend works in Asda (UK equivalent owned by Walmart) and her pay is fairly decent. | Currently making 9.45 an hour. That's what I was hired in on. I'm due for a raise, hopefully, soon. |
Isn't min-wage 10.25? Atleast in Canada. | 7.25 in the USA. |
You'd probably be pissed off if I told you what Walmart started me at, at the distribution center. | Oh god. I know. you people make soo much there. But you guys work like crazy, so you guys deserve it. Which DC did you/ do you work at, if I can ask? |
So that's about £5.95. My friend got £6.80 ($10.80) an hour to start moving up to £7.20 ($11.45) after 12 weeks. She is over 18 though, and works on the checkout. How old are you and what is your role? | I just turned 24, and I'm in the electronics department. And yes. I'm a chick. |
Wow, as a normal associate in electronics? At my end there (lasted less than a year) i was making 8.30 in Tire Lube Express, and 7.80 out in Lawn and Garden. I'm in Nebraska. | Yup. Plus where I live cost of living is outrageous. |
THANKS FOR LETTING zipper opening sound ME KNOW | NO NO NO NO NO gets water bottle and squirts Down boy! |
My friend and I are 23 and both also female. I find it interesting that the pay is different in the USA, do you get any additional benefits? Is it your full time job? | Not techically fulltime but close enough. Average about 36 hours a week. I havent been here long enough for insurance and what not but will be in Feb. |
THAT'S ME YOU FUCKING IDIOT! | Oh god! hangs head I have such bad aim! |
Doesnt walmart intentionally keep your hours below the threshold that requires them to issue medical benefits? | Yup. That and they can only have x amount of full time employees at each store at anytime. |
Is this you? | No lol. She's got no boobs. |
That's actually not true. positions are not allotted, so long as x amount of work hours by x positions are filled (manager, asst mngr, dept. mngr, sales associate, custodial staff) | It is true. |
If a store has x amount of hours to give out for that week, and they have to have x amount of employees on staff to make it through, the more full time you have, the less amount of staff you can have. Full timers all always paid more, so they take up more hours.
What's the weirdest family you've encountered. Have you ever seen a family wearing all NASCAR apparel? | Nah. Its all patriots gear here. And i did have a family of mullets once. We played 'which one is female'. We're all kind of assholes. |
Have you ever stolen? | Absolutely not. i value my job too much. Its wickedly hard to get a job, so I wouldn't chance it by stealing. Is it tempting? Fuck yes. Specially working in the electronics department and seeing all the video games come in early. When you're holding one of six collectors set of Diablo 3 in your hand, three weeks before release... tempting as hell. |
I used to sometimes keep merchandise that people forgot in their carts. I'm not entirely proud of it. I also turned in so many purses, it was so hard not to steal from those. | Other than games coming in early biggest temptation is when i find random money on the floor. I have to turn it in :( |
*glms. | I still say cbl sounds better. |
Nothing will be as bad as the one we had to take for the black friday and special event stuff. I swear if I heard "Solid barrier serpentine queue line" one more time I was going to off myself. | I havent taken that one yet. I cringed just thinking about what you're saying. Was it the old white guy's voice? |
No, it was more of a female 'AI that's gone rogue and is trying to kill all of humanity' voice. So calm, collective, and soul-less. Our store assigned us like 20 CBLs to complete on special crowd control stuff before Black Friday. | We have them too... but being in electronics we're just way too damn busy. Too many preparations to do. |
You don't go by Maya occasionally, do you? | Nope. Although i did name my left boob that one time. |
I can't imagine the story behind that, you should do an AMA for maya. | My friends and I were bored and slightly intoxicated. We got to talkimg about how guys like to name their junk and being one of the only females there, I got asked if my tits were named. I named the left one Maya and the right Michonne on the fly. Dunno why. |
Oddly enough I have been a part of a part of one of these"parties".. My penis is now named Sebastian. | Excellent name sir. Usefully ironic, if you ever get crabs. |
Under da sea... | |
You sound and smell like the kind of girl I would fuck in a rose garden with a horse mask on. Just an FYI. | What? O.o. |
Are you looking forward to Black Friday? Hehe. . . | Surprisingly yes. :) I love customer service. And yes. I'm insane. Possibly. |
Last year I went Black Friday shopping because I heard all the stories about how awesome it was. When I went to our local Walmart (Western WA) there were cops EVERYWHERE in the store and if you made a noise that's even slightly louder than standard talk you would get yelled at by a patrolmen. Needless to say I got bored and left. Is yours the same? | I honestly dont know. This will be my first Black Friday (technically we have to call it the Event now because they thinks it would be offensive to call it black friday. A few years ago a young black associate was somehow kill or severely injured that day.) But I formally worked at Fashion Bug for several black fridays and that shit is hell. Bitchy women fighting ober the last puffy coat, throwing punches and ripping hair out of one another. I work 12 hours this year during the event. |
As a former walmart electronics worker, I wish you good luck on your first Black Friday at walmart. People will be fucking crazy no doubt, so try your best not to freak out as well. Keep calm and try to have fun. The hours go by faster than you realize believe it or not. | Thank you! I've got a great team of guys, and theyre all great at making me laugh so things will go by fast. |
Well then you are set. And even if you DO have a bad day I am sure you can get tons of karma on gonewild later from what I saw. Wow, now that I type that it seems much creepier than I meant it to. Ima go sit in a corner and think about my life... | Isnt gonewild just for the skinnies though? :P maybe gonewildcurvy or gonewildplus... hmmm... ideas now. |
What sort of education do you have? | Im starting college on the third for counter intelligence. |
What college? | American Public University. its all online. website is apu.apus.edu Sheck it out! really inexpensive. |
What? I've never heard of that type of degree. | American public university offers it online lol. I get tuition grants for being a Wal-Mart employee. |
Are you going gov't or private sector? | Depends. Would love to go goverment. |
Why not go to public community college? I mean I can't even find what kind of accreditation that school is part of. Looks like one of the schools that pump you out with a degree that is worthless. | There isnt one close to where i live sadly. Nearest one is over an hour away and I dont have a car :/ |
Have you ever known someone to take something out of the storage room etc. Was it a worker? Was he or she fired or arrested? | Yup. A front end cashier was fired last month for stealing close to 4000 in various stock. Mostly high end electronics from the security room like the Beats head phones. |
Do you know how he was caught or what happened to him? | He was fired with I believe a pending case against him. Was arrested from what I know. He was caught on the cameras. |
Can you think of any vulnerabilities Walmart would have to union organization efforts? Are there ways to get a notice of some sort to ALL the employees of one store without the managers knowing? Do you think any one employee trying to organize a union could do so without being detected in some way? | Honestly I think a lot of jobs would have to be cut sadly and prices would have to go up. |
And hell no. There's too many cameras around the store and too many happy people the way they are to keep the secret.
If I showed up to your electronics department would you give me a video game before it's released for a bit of an upcharge that goes directly into your pocket? | Can't. They would fire my ass on the spot. Lol as much as I'd love extra cash, I value my job too much. |
Plus the system literally wont let us ring something up before its avalible for sale.
Have you ever read the book The Store by Bentley Little? Is it just like that? Link to www.amazon.com | No but now I'm intrigued. Will have to check that out. |
Are you guys obligated to do chit-chat with the customers during check-out? Because whenever I buy something at my Walmart, the cashiers always force a conversation on me about what I am buying. | We're encouraged to talk to customers to be sociable. It looks better. Plus it helps in making the shift go faster. |
Also, I noticed that when you bag the stuff, you kind of sort it into groups- all dairy in one bag, veggies and fruit in the next, cleaning supplies go all in one, and the like. I assume that you are also trained to do that? | I sort them like that because I'd be pissed if my frozens ended up with like my games or my shampoo with my meat. Makes mor sense that way. I wasn't trained that's just how I do it. |
Do you have to do PUT in your store and .com services? | Yup and layaway too. I handle all of it. |
What are your thoughts on the put program? do you enjoy it? imo, the PUT program is very cool, and i like going and picking orders. i just wish the onhand counts were correct so i wouldn't have to create exceptions all the time =/ | I love and hate it. Its super annoying when you've got a shit ton to do, and puts keep coming in. But i like the work too. |
Have you ever heard/read stories online, such as "People of walmart"? People post stories about shopping and working in walmart. If so, what do you think of it? | Oh god. I want to take pictures all the time, but that would mean instant termination sadly. :P I'd have so many good pictures on there. |
Your name is "Lady_Luna23" so, are you a Harry Potter fan or is that your actual name? | I wish! i'm a huge HP nerd and she's my fave. But the nickname is from high school, from a play I was in. |
Why is it whenever I need help finding something you guys manage to slither away into the darkness? | I personally dont. Im one of those annoying fuckers that greet everyone. 'Hey! How're yall doing? Can I help you with anything?' |
"i'm a huge HP nerd" instant respect :) | Might have to post my tattoo. |
I have a snitch on my foot that says I open at the close
Is your reddit name a reference to Princess Luna from MLP? | No lol. I wish. But its a nickname I was giving in high school from a play I did. |
I love it when electronics associates do that, aggressive customer service is the best way to stop shoplifters, and the legit customers usually appreciate it. | Yup! that's exactly why I do it. Cant tell you how many people I've stopped or made repeat customers of (they just come to see me) because of active greeting and good customer service! |
Why the fuck have I never seen your username around /harrypotter ? ._. | O.o i have no idea. floos away to that subreddit |
What benefits do you get, working at Wal Mart? | Right now none. Once I hit one year I can get health insurance amd paid time off, things like that. |
In China, wal-mart is seen as a very high class store, and the products there are thought to be much better than local chinese goods. | *Edited for moron typing. |
Don't you at least get the 10% discount and the 20% off coupon at Christmas? That's what they gave us at store # 2450 (Bellingham, WA) about 10 years ago. Shithole of a store. | 10% normally. 20% if youre one of those that work on black friday. |
Hey don't forget that sweet 10% discount and the quarterly bonuses based on the number of hours you work if your store makes 105% of sales. Working for 2 weeks over one Christmas I got a $130 bonus out of that deal. | We're getting almost $400 this quarter. BOOM! |
How do you feel about the recent strike put up by some Wal Mart employees? | Kind of silly. Walmart treats their employees decentlu and its a good job. My personal opinion, but i wouldnt strike. |
Bonuses are pro-rated if you haven't worked there for over a year. | That is prorated for me. 379.89. |
I don't understand how you think that they treat you well or that it is a good job. You deserve so much more! | I get almost 10 bucks an hour to talk to people about what I love, computers and video games. I get to hang out with awesome guys all day, and the company treats me awesome. |
Will you be striking black Friday? | Nope. I want to keep my job and I like it there too. |
How long of a shift will you be working? | 12 whole hours. Like a boss. |
Good for you! I can tell just by reading your comments and replies that you will go far in life. Good luck to you! | Thank you, very much! i'm sure going to try lol. |
If I can get my soul back from reddit that is >.>
That's why you should be striking. | I have a job. Im getting paid awesomely. I volunteered. And I still get to spend the day with people I love before i go into work. What's there to strike about? |
Plus you know... i have a job. In this economy that alone is a miracle.
How does one get a job like that? Is that just a regular security position, but just plain-clothes? | Plain-clothes. its a postion you can transfer to after hiring and all that. rarely if at all hired off the streets. |
Fellow Walmart electronics/connection center associate here. How many people do you have working in connection center? And are all the people in electronics trained to do connection center? | Hmm... 13 total and about 5 trained for CC. I want to be but they don't have time :/ |
How often does someone shit on the sales floor? | Twice since I started in May. |
We only have 3, including the manager, trained for CC. It's really annoying when the guys on the floor pass off a customer to us if they have any phone-related question. Even about a phone case. | I can answer almost any question about phones, i just can't run the contracts. |
Do you ever have any ethical concerns working for walmart given their labor practices? | Hmm.. only ethical concerns i've ever had was when someone was given management status right off the streets only because she's best friends with the manager who hired her. |
Same here, people do get promoted in stores based on who they know. They have lots of "grey" areas in promoting, only when it gets brought up do they actually start to be serious about it again. But lots of get promoted because someone likes the other more than someone else. | Its ridiculous. there where guys in her now department that have been there for years and years and bust ass to get shit done. One guy walked out because he was promised the position. |
Do managers really care about the employees? Or is it such a big place that no one notices if you misbehave? My friend who also works at Walmart came to work 3 hours late and no one noticed. | They let people slide if they're awesome workers. But most of my managers are awesome. They care and are extremely helpful. |
You being a chick, do you come across guys making sexual advances over you. How to you manage this, and be polite at the same time? | Its happened a few times but i always politely decline, citing a boyfriend of i have to. If theyre belligerent about it i call management. |
What are plans of Walmart coming to India ??? Have you heard of any such plans of Walmart coming to India in your meeting / team meetings etc? | Not that i know about. Im just a grunt but i would imagine itll happen eventually. I cant speak for the company on that. |
Have you ever had to clean poop off the floor? | Nope. I've cleaned blood off the floor though. |
Please explain! | First time: kid ran into a pole. Blood from his nose everywhere. |
Second time: looked like this girl changed hher damn tampon in the fitting room right before i went in.
Are we talking american walmart or canadian walmart? | American. New England to be precise. |
You said wicked hard somewhere, of course NE lol. | Lol sad but true. Worse because I was born in CA, grew up in IN and now live in NJ. |
Huh. I work at a Walmart in NE too, and we just got an front end associate from NJ. | Lol isnt me. I'vebeen around since May. |
I was born in/grew up in/ live in IN. Sad tuba. | Way sad. So. Boring. |
I was born in Jersey, grew up on Long Island and have the thickest L.I. accent ever and now live in VA...so yeah lol, I never hear the end of it at work. | Dude that's awesome! I wish i had a cool accent lol. |
