Non-Combat Sea and Underwater Encounters
Your party is sailing or traveling in a submersible (like the Apparatus of Kwalish) and interesting things besides combat happen!
A storm blows in and something strange is washed aboard the ship. You decide! (1d4):
Treasure.
A mermaid.
A strange, half drowned bird.
A dead deep sea fish.
Your submersible travels through a dense forest of Kelp and the propeller gets tangled and the party has to figure out how to dislodge without getting the bends/while under the immense atmospheric pressure under the sea.
The sounds of unearthly singing reach your ears from across the water. You find the remains of ships and sirens (mermaid like tricksters), but the sirens appear to have left.
A whirlpool full of teeth opens up just ahead of your ship and you have to sail to avoid it (think Scylla and Charybdis).
The seagulls are joined by other types of birds in the sky - perhaps something has gone awry on the land (perhaps a major forest fire).
Bio-luminescent jelly fish bloom at night, lighting up the water around you, creating a romantic and breathtaking atmosphere.
You find a dingy afloat all alone on the sea with a child/NPC with a story hook aboard.
The stowaway is revealed after someone finally took inventory of the stowed supplies below deck when the chocolate was disappearing in larger quantities than expected.
Seasoned sailors get seasick as you realize maybe something is wrong with the food.
You see a gargantuan entity on the horizon and the sailors start to tell tales. You decide! (1d4)

Things are going missing from the deck of the ship. If investigated, it's a bird. The bird has built a nest and is clearly trying to impress a potential mate with its newfound collection.
A strange formation of rocks appears a ways off the shoreline of an island. Closer inspection reveals that these are not rocks, but bones from an ancient dragon. Perhaps the hoard is somewhere nearby?
A sea witch happens upon the ship. She gives the party the "gift of communication" and casts a friendly spell before going on her way. The enchantment is aimed at the ship. For the next 14 days, the ship is sentient and can communicate with the crew. And boy oh boy, does this ship have some opinions!
A wave washes a large shell onto the deck of the ship. It's a instrument, and the first person to pick it up gains proficiency in playing the shell. The shell can lull any baby in a 10 foot radius into a peaceful slumber.

It has cannons, wood, food, ale, plants, silks, spices, sugar, a note atop showing a delivery island that is where you came from, the island you're going to, an island near it, an island you've never heard of, an island that Nobody has ever heard of.
A giant squid comes near the surface near the boat to warm up in the sun. Curious about your presence, it follows your ship for several hours before disappearing back into the depths.

As you keep watch, you look over the side. Roll a percentage dice. (1-10, 90-100 its real) you see a small creature tearing out boards to the side of the ship! Then as you look they vanish, and you hear a commotion from the other side of the boat.

The ship gets lost in a magnetic field anomaly which causes their compass to spin wildly. A DC 17 survival check will get them out but off course. A 20 or higher will get them out while maintaining the proper course
A merchant vessel: a vessel that is a small market place, stocking rope, lantern oil, medical supplies, preserved foods, and other ship-borne essentials, maybe weapon maintenance, potions of healing and water breathing, that kind of thing. put some guards on it: a blackguard, a champion, and a warlord.
You encounter a Kelp Forest, a portion of the sea where the Kelp stalks stretch high above the waves, at least 40 to 50 feet. Who knows what kind of beasts might linger in the fog, nesting amongst the broad leaves and seed pods.
A pod of whales swims along side the submersible, a sudden wave lunges the sub to one side as a Roc dives into the water and grabs a whale. The roc's flapping and thw whales panic make for extremly difficult seas and the crew of the sub will needs to sucseed in a skill challenge to prevent catostophic failure of the machine.
An Iceberg that has been carved to be an Ice lich fortress on its underside sawrms with undead such as Merpires and Great Wight Sharks. The Party will have to find ways to make their vessal steathy or face a dire situation. (If in warmer climes, the Iceberg can be replaced with a floating coral fortress and the Ice Lich with a Merpire (Merfolk Vampire) Lord.)
The Party see a lake of dark liquid on the bottom of th sea bed. The substance is "Brine" super salty water that is low in oxygen, only the most hard bacteria can survive in it. it is used by many subnautical peoples as a holy sight to entomb their dead. . . Often with gold and pearls. When the Party are down in the lake, somethng knocks on the hatch.

The ship is run aground on a sandbank (more plausible in archipelagos/shallow waters), so the players must find a way to dig the ship out or use enough force to push off from the bank (but not too much force to break the ship!)
You pass ovearound an island recently submerged underwater by rising sea levels (natural or otherwise). The tops of trees and buildings peak over the lapping waves, and if you glance down and squint you can make out the signs of a civilisation eradicated; fish swimming about abandoned hovels, overturned carts floating by, and even the occasional ghost wandering down dead roads.
Far in the distance, you can make out a naval battle raging. The distant thunder of cannons and a faint smell of brimstone linger in the air. Eventually one ship keels over, sinking beneath the waves.

A long riverboat is seen at the mouth of a river pouring into the sea. A closer investigation reveals it is a casino boat!
A ship rolls up on you, but it's someone going where you are and they challenge you to a race to get there. No magic can be used, some magic, all bets are off. They wager gold, a piece of information, a magic item. They are true to their word, they sail away, they attempt to destroy the ship, they vanish as you approach the island (they're ghosts) and you find the reward in the captains quarters.

One foggy night you hear ghostly pirate shanties being sung over the waves. In the fog you can barely make out the black shape of a ghost ship before it disappears.

In the distance you sea a newly form volcano spewing out fire elementals to battle water elementals rising from the sea to snuff out the volcano.
A giant Octopus is tending their coral garden. They offer gold in exchange for seaweeds from far off places to put in their garden.
Has anyone featured an encounter with black smokers yet? Vents from the planets mantel spewing out pressurized boiling gas, causing pillars of what looks like black smoke underwater and a huge diversity of life that is strange and alien. You could combine that with a giant Bobbit worm made of smoke poking out of a portal to the elemental plane of fire. this is a vague idea.
Maybe come across some merfolk torturing a sapient giant electric eel, they are doing so to capture electricity that powers a magic artifact that keeps a merfolk child alive. free the eel and the child dies. leave it and a living thinking creature is tortured slowly to death.
While you observe the sea you notice a big shadow appear under the boat. A BIG shadow. A massive sea creature appears.
While sailing, suddenly it gets more and more foggy till you can barely see anything anymore. Suddenly you see a hazy ship coming out of the water and getting closer to you. The crew doesn't look normal (Black Pearl inspired)
You travel a long time on a boat with only a few passenger, you eat regularly together in the small tavern style restaurant on the boat and basically know all passengers by face. One day one of them disappears. Next day another one, and another one. The rest passengers get suspicious. The persons are nowhere to be found. The PCs try to investigate. In the end turns out a vampire is on the boat coming out when its cloudy or raining. (Dracula Series on Netflix, Second Episode)

Monarch: become a king or queen.
Optional: in god mode, you can select the royalty status of a new life. Select prince/princess, and kill your parents later in life or wait until they die until you inherit the throne. If you happen to have older siblings, kill them off.
Executioner: execute 20 people. It can only be done as king or queen. Edit: this can be done multiple times in one year. Depending on the country, people may revolt against you which can lead to exile. If you want to avoid this, be a king/queen in Saudi Arabia. Thank youu/Scarlet_Hare.
Napoleon: get exiled by repeatedly executing people or selecting public disservice. Do this until your respect is at 0%. The people will revolt against you, and you will be exiled.
Reign Over Us: reign as a monarch (king/queen) for 100 years. To do this, become king/queen. Have a child, and kill your spouse immediately. Then surrender. The child will automatically become the king/queen. Live for 100 years by keeping your health up by following the steps under the Longevity section. Make sure to keep your respect high by doing public services.
Markle: be a female, live in the UK, have high looks to become a famous (edit: you can become a famous actress but it's not required. Thank youu/notoriousbaby), and use the dating app REGULAR dating tab, NOT dating app, to date and marry into the royal family.
Longevity:
Keep your health up by going to the gym, meditating, taking walks, and going to the doctor when you're sick.
Wealth:
The fastest way to become wealthy is to become a famous actor or famous writer. I also recommend living in countries that don't have estate tax such as Germany, Sweden, Monaco, & Norway. Start off with high looks for actor or high smarts for writer. Join social media & post every year. When you become famous, do a commercial every year. While there are other high paying jobs such as porn star, model, and music composer, I do not recommend these because you won't be able to make much extra money on the side. For porn star and model, you can do photo shoots, but they don't pay nearly as much as commercials do.
Real Estate:
Become wealthy using the advice for wealthy achievements. For flipping houses, buy equestrian properties & keep renovating them when necessary. If you buy an equestrian property in your 20s, by the time you're in your 70s-80s, the net worth of the property will increase by a few millions.
Social Media:
Become famous and post every year. When your fame bar is at 75%, request verification.
Animal:
Animal rescue: take an animal to a shelter.
Deaf leopard: buy a leopard from the exotic pet dealer & yell at it when it misbehaves.
Jack of all trades: have 10 different jobs in one life. Apply for jobs that don't require a degree and stay for a few years (I stayed for 2 years).
Candy-writer: be born in MIAMI (NOT Tuscon) with high smarts. Major in computer science and get a job as an app tester with BITLIFE. DO NOT GET A JOB WITH CANDY-WRITER. THE COMPANY SHOULD SAY BITLIFE.
Last resort: have high looks. Use god mode to edit your boss to have 0% professionalism, 0% strictness, 0% willpower, and 100% coolness.
While you have good performance at work, seduce your boss.
If done successfully, lower your performance percentage bar by insulting and pulling pranks on coworkers.
When a pop up shows up saying you've been fired, beg your boss for another chance, & try to seduce them again.
People person: if you have trouble befriending your coworkers, use god mode to set their craziness to 0%, coolness to 100%, willpower to 0%, and low professionalism.
Combat:
Medieval weapon: insult people until someone attacks you with a medieval weapon.
Armed & Dangerous: Tiger Claw Strike (Kung-Fu) seems to be the most deadly. Aim at the person's skull or throat.
Disease:
Bubonic plague: random.
Rabies: pet stray animals that you come across. One will eventually bite you & give you rabies.
Witchcraft: avoid taking raw egg, venom, & green bubbling liquid as these are the deadliest things you can consume.
Addicted: accept all substances offered to you. Go clubbing (with high looks & low smarts) to get more access to substances.
Sickly: Get sick with 10 diseases in 1 life.
Do this by going clubbing as soon as you turn 18. Accept substances that are offered to you & hook up with random people.
Try to get as many STDs as you can including but not limited to: chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, and genital herpes.
Go to the gym every year to get other illnesses such as: ringworm, staph infection, athletes foot, etc.
Note: you can also get HIV and Hep B from hook ups, but make sure to keep your health up so that you don't die from complications.
Entertainment:
BitBoi: watch YouTube with friends until Bijuu Mike pops up.
BTS ARMY: go to a concert with a friend every year until BTS shows up.
Fame:
Brightest Star: get max fame by having high looks, posting on social media, & doing commercials or photo shoots.
Centerfold: do photo shoots every year until you do one for Wank magazine.
Endorser: become a famous actor & do a commercial. These typically pay about $4,000,000
K-Pop: be born in South Korea. Have high looks, & get a job as a background singer. Work hard every year & get promoted to lead singer. Post on social media. You'll eventually become a famous pop star.
Fertility:
DNA donor: have high looks &/or high smarts to be allowed to donate your sperm.
Fertile myrtle: be born a female. Get pregnant as soon as you turn 18 by artificial insemination or unprotected sex. Do this every year until you have 25 children.
Smart seed: Be a female, graduate high school, and have a decent amount of money ($45k). Check the artificial insemination option. If a lawyer doesn't show up, close out of the app and restart it until a lawyer (NOT judge or paralegal) pops up.
Triplets: increase your chances by using artificial insemination.
Love:
Fake it: use god mode to lower your fiance's smarts to 0%, then propose.
Bejeweled: marry someone rich or use god mode to adjust your SO's money bar. Keep your relationship bar full.
Black widow: use a dating app to marry men 80+.
Optional: use god mode to set their health to 0%.
Diamond Anniversary: marry young & keep your health bar up. Use god mode to set your SO's health to 100% so they won't die quickly.
Family planner: set your SO's smarts & willpower to 0% & convince them to go off birth control.
Wedding planner: be born in an African country such as DR Congo. Wait until your parents arrange a marriage for you & accept. Gender doesn't matter.
Military:
Career military: serve a full career in the military. Avoid deployments by closing the app & restarting.
General: enlist as an air force, army, or marines officer. Work hard every year until you become general.
Admiral: enlist as a navy or coast guard officer. Work hard every year until you get promoted to admiral.
AWOL: get addicted to alcohol by going clubbing. Once you get addicted, go to rehab.
Excavator: to clear 10 minefields, it's best to practice minesweeper until you're good at it. This DOES NOT need to be done in one life. You can do this over multiple lives.
Prison
Escape from prison: get arrested for a petty crime & get sent to minimum or medium security prison. Use this guide to escape.
Justice: be wealthy & apply for an appeal.
Aftermath: riot every year. Each year, the number of prisoners you need increases by 5. The max is 25. Once you hit 25, keep rioting every year until you can escape.
Rioting will lower your health. Keep your health bar green by bribing the guards, going to the infirmary,working out, & meditating.
You can only escape when your health is green.
In-mating: get arrested in a minimum or medium security prison. Arrange a conjugal visit. Make sure your spouse has a high crazy level.
Mercy Me: follow the steps in the wealth achievement section. Get arrested with a long sentence. Be on good behavior by meditating every year, ignoring prisoners, & being respectful to the warden. Appeal your sentence. Note: while in prison, DO NOT join gangs, incite riots, or bribe guards.
Theseus: the easiest way to escape is by following the instructions to the aftermath achievement. Otherwise, you can check out this guide.
School:
Naughty child: easiest way to get expelled is to enroll in college & get bad grades by not studying & skipping class.
Brothers Forever: join a frat in college by having high looks. When you graduate & look for a job, you'll be hired by a frat brother.
Earning that A: seduce your teacher by having high looks. Use god mode to change the teacher's professionalism & willpower to 0%.
Swimming Star: have high health & join the swim team in high school or college. Practice hard every year to become captain.
Vehicle:
Get rich using the steps in the wealth section above. Obtain your pilot & boating license to complete these achievements.
Antiqued: buy a car. Get maintenance done every year. Do repairs when needed.
General:
Cliff diving: spend time with family & friends every year until you go cliff diving.
Hero: save someone from choking.
Skeezy: insult people until someone calls you skeezy.
Snake snack: go to the witch doctor every year until she offers a snake.
Emigrate to Canada/Visit Winnipeg: check the emigrate/vacation list every year until they show up.

Nightmare: be wealthy by following the steps in the wealth section. Buy an airplane, jet, or helicopter and fly every year. Eventually a bad situation will come up and you need to pick an option. Para-nightmare: live in a haunted house. When encountering a ghost/paranormal event, scream. Make sure your health is very low. You can do this by going on unhealthy diets such as Hot Cheetos or High Calorie. You can also drink alcohol. Avoid drugs so that you don't accidentally overdose.

Resourceful: marry a rich person that's 80+ & wait until they die OR have a low net worth & divorce them.
Rich justice: be wealthy by following the steps above in the wealth section. Sue a plastic surgeon who botched your surgery or an ex-spouse (both tend to have a decent amount of money). Sue for $1 mil and pick the most expensive law firm to represent you.

I also recommend living in countries that don't have estate tax such as Germany, Sweden, Switzerland (thanks u/Guillermo-Jubera) , Monaco, & Norway. Start off with high looks for actor or high smarts for writer. Join social media & post every year. When you become famous, do a commercial every year. While there are other high paying jobs such as porn star, model, and music composer, I do not recommend these because you won't be able to make much extra money on the side. For porn star and model, you can do photo shoots, but they don't pay nearly as much as commercials do.
Real Estate:
Become wealthy using the advice for wealthy achievements. For flipping houses, buy equestrian properties & keep renovating them when necessary. If you buy an equestrian property in your 20s, by the time you're in your 70s-80s, the net worth of the property will increase by a few millions.
Social Media:
Become famous and post every year. When your fame bar is at 75%, request verification.
Animal:
Animal rescue: take an animal to a shelter.
Deaf leopard: buy a leopard from the exotic pet dealer & yell at it when it misbehaves.
Gorilla: buy a gorilla & mistreat it.
Hippo: try to pet the hippo. You'll die from it.
Lion: increase your chances by going on a walk each year. Set pace to speed walking & set time to 2 hours to cover max distance.
Jack of all trades: have 10 different jobs in one life. Apply for jobs that don't require a degree and stay for a few years (I stayed for 2 years).
Candy-writer: be born in MIAMI (NOT Tuscon) with high smarts. Major in computer science and get a job as an app tester with BITLIFE. DO NOT GET A JOB WITH CANDY-WRITER. THE COMPANY SHOULD SAY BITLIFE.
Last resort: have high looks. Use god mode to edit your boss to have 0% professionalism, 0% strictness, 0% willpower, and 100% coolness.
While you have good performance at work, seduce your boss.
If done successfully, lower your performance percentage bar by insulting and pulling pranks on coworkers.
When a pop up shows up saying you've been fired, beg your boss for another chance, & try to seduce them again.
People person: if you have trouble befriending your coworkers, use god mode to set their craziness to 0%, coolness to 100%, willpower to 0%, and low professionalism.

Witchcraft: avoid taking raw egg, venom, & green bubbling liquid as these are the deadliest things you can consume.
Addicted: accept all substances offered to you. Go clubbing (with high looks & low smarts) to get more access to substances.
Sickly: Get sick with 10 diseases in 1 life.
Do this by going clubbing as soon as you turn 18. Accept substances that are offered to you & hook up with random people.
Try to get as many STDs as you can including but not limited to: chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, and genital herpes.
Go to the gym every year to get other illnesses such as: ringworm, staph infection, athletes foot, etc.

Crit W. (GM): CLUNK The ground moves from beneath your feet, and you're dunked into the water. The weights tied to your ankles drag you down, down, down... you can see the broad spread of Palamedes' underbelly all around you, green in places. Roll phys+mind. Twice. Spark: Spark sobs and sucks breath into her lungs, curled up in a ball. Her eyes stay on the drone. Crit W. (GM): The drone drops off of the switch and walks over towards you all. Its eyes flicker as a voice comes from it, clearly female. "Shit, shit shit shit. Are you all okay?" Madelynn: Once she's finished vomiting up all the water in her lungs. Madelynn just breaths in the glorious air, pushing past the burning feeling left over from choking. Marysa: Marysa takes a few moments to catch her breath, before taking a look at the drone. Was it the one that brought them back up? Spark: "Th-thank you," Spark says, shivering, shaking, and trying to pull herself to her knees. Crit W. (GM): "You didn't stay down there long enough to get brain damage or anything did you?" There's the sound of typing. "Okay no, Google says it takes about 6 minutes after your heart stops... this was about 2... okay, phew." The drone starts untying each of you. Lemma: Nina continues to lie still. The drone-monkey says, turning to address you all. "I... probably should've talked about this before I freed you, but whatever I needed you alive. My name is Crypto." The girl says. "I've come here to make you all an offer, and, if you accept it, to help you escape." Spark: rolling 2d10+10 2+5+10= 17 Lemma: Nina puts her glasses on looks up at the drone. She doesn't move. Lemma: [*and looks up at the drone.] Crit W. (GM): The blonde woman-- spark, you all can guess-- starts glowing between her hands, heating herself. Madelynn: "What's the offer?" More emphatic this time. Marysa: Marysa's finger tips form a layer of bone as well, sharp to the point the claws. Crit W. (GM): "Alright!" The drone says, sounding pleased. "Well I'm sure you all have figured out the gist of it, but the first thing is telling you where you are." Marysa: like claws* Crit W. (GM): "Currently we're on the bottom layer of Palamedes, down in the maintenance network." "The Golden Dice have kind of taken over the sections beneath their casinos, which is illegal, but they own the property above it so nobody can prove anything." "Right now, you lot are beneath... what was this one, the Sea Palace casino?" "There's a couple of routes out of here, but we've got some havoc to wreak first." A panel pops open on the drone, and it hands each of you an earpiece. "Take these, you can use them to communicate with me and each other." Marysa: Marysa takes the ear piece, looking it over for a moment before putting it in. "Might be useful, sure." Madelynn: Madelynn takes one of the earpieces and puts it in, "Let's hope we don't end up back here." she shivers afterwards. Lemma: Lemma inserts the earpiece. Spark: Spark wrings out her hair, then takes one of the earpieces, slipping it into her ear. Lemma: Not that she'll likely be doing much communicating. Marysa: Marysa cracks her neck, before looking around to the other recruits. None of them really looks reliable, but maybe one of them had some actual use if she was lucky. "Who needs a weapon?" Spark: Spark steps back from Madelynn. Crit W. (GM): Madelynn's eyes return to normal, but she seems... different, somehow. Madelynn: "I'm okay on weapons, thanks." Crit W. (GM): rolling 1d4 3= 3 Spark: "I'll take one, I guess," says Spark. Lemma: "Stop." Clearly audible this time. Spark: Spark removes the earbud. Marysa: From Marysa's left palm, something akin to a handle begins to protrude. She takes hold of it with her right, the boney claws clicking on contact, as she slowly pulls a moderately sized sabre of bone free. "Simple weapon, sword. spear. Whatever, pick something you can use." Crit W. (GM): "wait no put it back I'll turn it down!" Comes from the dangling earbud, loud enough for everyone to hear. Spark: Spark replaces the earbud in her ear. "That's fine," repeats Spark. Lemma: Nina stares at the bone saber, inquisitive. Spark: "I would like a staff or spear that can hold my weight. I am feeling a bit weak," says Spark, giving Marysa a fragile smile. Lemma: She slides her hands into her pockets and keeps them there. Marysa: "Sure." Placing the blade under her arm to hold it for her, Marysa's right hand moved to grab a new piece slowly extending from her left. Straight, thick enough to be durable. The tip comes to a sharp point as it breaks free from the flesh, and after shifting her hands position Marysa offers the dull end to Spark. Crit W. (GM): (For the sake of time since Harbin is brb, we'll assume she takes it) With all of you earbud-laden, the monkey drone climbs up the wall and into a tiny ventilation duct, then replaces the duct cover. Thin tools slide through the slits on the duct and screw the cover back on, and the drone disappears into the ventilation. "Okay so." Crypto says. "You guys need to head to the surface, which is roughly north of here, but we've got some hell to raise before that." "You know the door opposite your ah, restraints? The two assholes who tried to kill you left through there. Your first order of business is going to be taking them out so they don't raise the alarm when they come back for your corpses in 15 minutes or so." Marysa: "Ambush 'em here, or chase after them?" Crit W. (GM): The doors in this place are thick metal bulkheads, controlled with tinkertech tap-panels and leveled on perfectly-balanced self-lubricating water-resistant hinges. Madelynn: "My votes for ambushing them." Madelynn then shrugs "Unless everyone feels like chasing after them in which case be my guest." Lemma: Nina, as ever, looks to the others around her. Marysa: A few spikes begin to form along marysa's forearms. "I'm fine with whatever, but waiting is more likely to help us get the jump on them." Spark: "I think ambushing them might be a better idea? I could use my powers, make a flashbang, maybe?" says Spark. Crit W. (GM): "It's up to you guys how you want to handle it, ambushing them is fine. They don't know we're here yet, so we're not on a strict timetable." "Well, they know we're here, but they think-- you get what I mean." Crypto says. Marysa: Marysa positions herself near the door, and waits. Madelynn: Madelynn makes her way to the upper corner of the room to wait, hopefully out of immediate eyesight. Lemma: Nina looks attentively at the door from her place in the back. She doesn't move. Spark: Spark cups her hands together, creating light tightly cupped between them. rolling 2d10+10 9+9+10= 28 Marysa: With time to spare, Marysa began tossing down to spikes/caltrops by the door as she made them, scattered about. some spikes* Crit W. (GM): Marysa: roll power Marysa: rolling 2d10+10 9+2+10= 21 Crit W. (GM): You all are left waiting about 15 minutes, judging by your own internal clocks. "They should be coming soon." Crypto tells you. Marysa: "Just watch your step over here." Marysa warned, the last she she wanted was to have to carry a team mate later. Crit W. (GM): "Hey, one of you throw the lever so it looks like you're still drowning." Crypto adds. Marysa: Marysa pulls the level. Marysa: lever* Crit W. (GM): The restraints, collars and all, dunk back into the ocean. A minute or so passes... and then the two goons walk in. "OWW FUCK!" the first one shouts, stepping on the caltrops. "What-the" The second starts. You all get a free round! Crit W. (GM): We'll start with Marysa. (GM): Roll power Madelynn: rolling 2d10 + 25 5+4+25= 34 Crit W. (GM): You can shoot them both. Once each. Madelynn: rolling 2d10 + 3 3+9+3= 15 rolling 2d10 + 3 1+4+3= 8rolling 2d10+15 10+10+15= 35 Crit W. (GM): Errybody gets a hero point Madelynn: rolling 2d6+25 6+4+25= 35 Crit W. (GM): The one near the door falls over, knocking his buddy over with his corpse. Spark: "Keep the other alive if you can," says Spark. Crit W. (GM): His freaked-out friend screams and tries to get the corpse off of him as the first dude bleeds out. He cuts himself on a few more caltrops. At this point each of you would get another turn but you basically won already He's not going to do much with his buddy's corpse on him and blinded So battle over! Crit W. (GM): "I can't hear anything, did you guys get them?" Crypto asks. Marysa: "Taken care of." Spark: "Yes," says Spark. "I'll use my powers to interrogate this one. It'll be a little rough. Can someone hold me up? It's a bit taxing on me." Crit W. (GM): "Excellent! One of them should have a tablet or something. They might've left it in the other room, but check them first." Crypto says. "Uh, I thought you had light powers?" Crypto asks. "Is there something I don't know about how light works with the brain?" You guys hear more typing. Marysa: Marysa moves closer. "Do whatever you need, i guess." Spark: "The mind is a read-write interface," says Spark. "I can use light to check points in his brain. I didn't tell anyone but the higher bosses about it." Lemma: Nina takes a few steps closer from the corner. Spark: Spark presses her lips against the goon's roughly, and flecks of light are visible through her cheeks, dancing into the goon's mouth, and Spark slumps. Crit W. (GM): The goon's body stiffens, then jerks around like he's having a seizure. Then it, too, falls still. Crit W. (GM): The body stiffens up. And then the eyes open. There is, for the briefest moment, an intense look of fear. Spark: Light flecks travel back across through those lips and back to Spark. Crit W. (GM): Spark's body stiffens and spasms, but it is not nearly so violent A few moments later, she stirs and returns to consciousness. Spark: "Sorry about that," Spark says, wiping her lips. "I have a rough map, but I wasn't able to get much. It's a weird power." Marysa: "Great, so what's our fastest way out?" Madelynn: "Something is better than nothing." Crit W. (GM): The guard is no longer moving, incidentally. Spark: "To the northwest," she says. "It's probably easier to take the roundabout exit, going this way. we'll cut through the generator room." Crit W. (GM): "Uhh, can you guys check them for that tablet?" Crypto asks again. Madelynn: Madelynn searches the bodies for said tablet. "What's on this thing that you're so interested in?" Crit W. (GM): Madelynn pulls out a tablet... that was in one of their coat pockets. It has a bullet hole through it. Whoops. "With the tablet I can get access to their network, and I can use that execution video to start our pile of dirt on Julius." "Your earpieces have little pull-out jacks you can use to get me access." Spark: "It was shot in the fight," says Spark. Crit W. (GM): "...Oh." "Take it anyway, you might've missed the storage drive." "No network access sucks, but it sounds like Spark has a vague map anyway?" "Reading brains is still really weird to me, jeez." Marysa: Marysa moves over towards sparks. "You lead the way, i'll stay near the front to deal with enemies." Spark: "It's a one-shot deal," says Spark. "By analyzing their brains utilizing light, it burns it out." Spark opens the east door. Lemma: Nina falls in line behind the the others. Spark: "This leads to the morgue, and then the disposal area. Shouldn't be too occupied, if it's anything like the other ones I've been to." Lemma: ...but before she goes, she takes a moment to collect the broken collars from the floor. Crit W. (GM): The room you guys enter next is cold. A box on the wall hums, likely venting heat into the seawater outside. Frost covers each of the gray boxes lined up on either side of the room. Four of them are open, and unoccupied. Spark: Spark continues walking. "There might be a worker in the disposal area. If there is, we'll need to move fast." Crit W. (GM): The insides of the boxes are surprisingly clean... which makes sense, considering the method of execution is bloodless. Madelynn: rolling 2d10 + 25 5+7+25= 37 Spark: rolling 2d10+10 (Flashbang) 1+2+10= 13 Ouch :( +5 hero point why not Crit W. (GM): Spark makes a little flashbang. Not as good as the last one, but good enough to blind one guy. Entering the disposal room, you see a worker loading a body into the furnace. He turns to look at you. Marysa: marysa raises her clawed hand towards the man, as she readies to launch the spikes. Spark: Spark sets it off. Marysa: rolling 2d10+10 2+9+10= 21 Crit W. (GM): Spark: roll attack Spark: rolling 2d10+6 5+2+6= 13 Crit W. Spark: "Dispose of him," says Spark. "He is complicit." Crit W. (GM): "No! No wait! All I do is shove bodies, I ain't killed nobody!" Lemma: Nina fidgets on the threshold of the room. She tries not to look at anything in particular. Crit W. (GM): He starts crawling backwards away from you. Spark: rolling 2d10+10 4+7+10= 21 Spark: rolling 2d6+10 4+1+10= 15 Crit W. (GM): Spark kills him. Marysa: Marysa checks him for anything of value. Crit W. (GM): The blast of light cauterizes the wound it makes in his back. He doesn't even bleed on the floor. Spark: "Help me dispose of the body," says Spark. Marysa: "gimme a sec." Crit W. (GM): Rai: +$10 Marysa: Marysa pockets 10$, than grabs the body and drags it over. Crit W. (GM): You throw him into his own furnace. The smell of his corpse burning is awful. Spark: Spark moves on. Lemma: Nina wrinkles her nose and coughs a few times as she passes, but otherwise doesn't comment. Marysa: Marysa regrows the claws that she fired earlier, as they move. Spark: "This path coincides with the break room," says Spark. "We might encounter someone coming down this path, although it's unlikely." Crit W. (GM): The tight tunnels you walk through have pipes cris-crossing their ceilings. The walls are bare tinkermetal, uninsulated, and they feel cold to the touch. The next door refuses to work. There is a password input box. Spark puts in the password. The door beeps twice angrily. INCORRECT, it says. Lemma: What kind of door is it Crit W. (GM): Thick tinkermetal bulkheads Spark: "Sorry," says Spark, very apologetic. "I couldn't get a proper image of the password." Crit W. (GM): There's so many of them to prevent leak spreadage in case of a structural breach, as this whole section of Palamedes is submerged. Lemma: How's it open? Bottom-up, from the middle/side? Crit W. (GM): From opening all the previous doors, you would guess right side, hinge-beared The hinges are not on this side of the bulkhead. Madelynn: "We may have been able to get it from the tablet.." Madelynn sighs heavily, "Is there anyway to bypass the door?" Lemma: How does the mechanism actually holding it in place work; can I see it? Crit W. (GM): "Are you asking me?" Crypto says. "Without network access, I can't do much. I've been trying to get at their crap from outside, but they keep this area as a digital island." The mechanism is not exposed with the door shut, but judging by the prior doors the bulkhead uses six tinkermetal bars, embedded into the left and right frames, to hold itself shut until actuated. "So it's a door stopping you guys, right?" Crypto asks. Madelynn: rolling 2d10 + 25 8+3+25= 36 Lemma: Nina fidgets a little more. Crit W. (GM): Marysa feels... different. Spark: "Yes," says Spark. "It would let us get out much sooner, with less fighting and potential alarms going off." Crit W. (GM): Knowledge floods her head-- --and a new power manifests, temporarily, in her. Marysa: "Ugh... the fuck?" Her eyes blink a few times behind her mask as it feels like something changes. "ok, who just did something. I feel wierd." Madelynn: "Sorry, that was me. Guess I should have warned you.. But whatever. Point is you can teleport." Madelynn does jazz hands as she says teleport. Marysa: Marysa grabs Madelynn. "Well then you're coming with me." Marysa: Marysa teleports wityh madelynn to the other side of the door. Crit W. (GM): There's two dudes sitting at the generator console. They haven't noticed you. There is movement and then a disgusting SPLORTCH And kaboom, the villains are gone! In much the same way the joker makes a pencil "disappear". Crit W. (GM): On the inside, the generator room door has an emergency release lever. Madelynn: Wrinkling her nose up at the human pancakes, Madelynn goes to open the door for the others Spark: "The exit is to the west." "There might be guards there." Crit W. (GM): "Wait wait, the west?" Crypto says. "Are you guys in the generator room?" Spark: "Yes," says Spark. Crit W. (GM): "Holy shit go east!" Marysa: "Why east?" Spark: "There's a storage room," says Spark. Lemma: Nina immediately moves to the eastmost door. Crit W. (GM): "My drone passed a room where they keep a bunch of tinkershit on the way to you, it should've been east of the generator somewhere." Marysa: "May as well load up. Free money if we can't use it." Spark: "I think it's in our best interests to vacate the premises, but if you all would prefer to take this route, I'll come with." Marysa: "I can just jump in, grab stuff and jump out." Crit W. (GM): The room you enter is filled with shelves upon shelves of tinkertech, most of it in protective metal cases. A lot of it is disassembled. Marysa: "Once we grab so stuff, we can leave out the west. should be fine still, right?" some* Crit W. (GM): "If I'm thinking right, this is shit that they took off of capes they dunk tanked." Crypto says. Madelynn: Madelynn makes her way into the room curious of what exactly is in there. Mass Launcher: Tinkergun, load any small-ish object into it and it will fire it like a railgun. Converts damage to 3d6 instead of 2d6, adds +5 damage. Fits anything up to grenade size. Reinforcement Pack: Stick it to a surface and turn it on, shields up to 5 feet of material to make it near-invulnerable for 2 rounds. All that + the misc shit Crypto went 'TAKE THAT TAKE THAT KEEP THAT OH MY GOD' towards, so probably random valuable materials. Crit W. (GM): Everything else is either too disassembled to be of use, or not worth your time. Reinforcement pack has a 2-round cooldown between uses. (Starting when the previous use ends) Lemma: Lemma clips the bracer around her wrist. Marysa: Marysa grabs the gun, looking it over, grinning under her mask. As they return to the door, Marysa loads a bone shard into the gun. rolling 2d10+12 9+8+12+5= 34 Crit W. (GM): "Hey hey, before you guys go, hook me into the generator." Crypto says. "I'm going to make a distraction so you guys can get out." Marysa: Marysa goes to raid the lockers while someone else does that. Lemma: Lemma stops short and turns around. She walks back to the generator. Marysa: "Found a keycard over here." Lemma: Earpiece off, jack extended. Nina plugs it into wherever on the generator seems most promising. Crit W. (GM): "Nyeheheheh..." Crypto cackles to herself. "Alright, done. Take the earpiece, it's expensive." "Oh, er... TELL her to take the earpiece." Madelynn: "Grab it, then we should get a move on. I think we should hurry up or we'll get left behind." Lemma: Nina stops midstride a second time, retrieves the earpiece, and then follows. Crit W. (GM): The double doors swing open. At the other end of this large room is a staircase leading up. Spark: "Freedom," says Spark with a smile. Marysa: "Great. Let's get on out of here, then." Lemma: rolling 2d10+5+5 hp 6+1+5+5= 17 Marysa: rolling 2d10+12+5 1+5+12+5= 23 Madelynn: rolling 2d10+7 7+3+7= 17 Crit W. (GM): You don't see any labels of note. You all head up and out. The Sea Palace is as extravagant as some of you remember-- but it's also heavily guarded as shit. Once you're topside, Crypto leads you all into a side-room over comms... ...and then you hear the explosion. Alarms go off, people flee the casino screaming, and all the lights in the casino go dark. "Alright go go go!" Crypto says. You all head out into Palamedes proper, and Crypto guides you through side-streets and neighborhoods toward your new hideout... Crit W. I'd say it's different for all of us. For me (jonnie) it was helping Lucas in DC who wanted to get a home for his dad, who became homeless after a fractious divorce. He's a good kid.

What motivated me to set off when we started in 2006 was a) I wanted to work with my brother b) I couldn't figure out why more people our age weren't protesting and c) I was unhappy with my life. It felt like we had all these problems in the world that weren't being addressed. Things like global warming that were too complex for any single leader to conquer. I thought to myself, how do I help? At the time my brother had lost one of his best friends to a drowning accident in British Columbia and it made me think a lot about death. I realized that mortality is a (maybe, the) most powerful motivator for our species. Then I thought, I wonder what people want to do before they die? Then, what do I want to do before I die? And I decided from there that I wanted to ask people and to learn what they had to say. I thought the soberness of it might help the conversation. It helps put all the bullshit to rest. That's kinda also why we called this The Buried Life. It felt like we get buried by day-to-day stuff that makes us forget what's truly important in life.
Then we decided to go after our list of 100 things (Link to www.facebook.com and to help a stranger each time we got one done. The name specifically I should add is courtesy of an 1852 poem called The Buried Life by Matthew Arnold. -jonnie.

Hey johnny. first remember that depression doesn't last forever and everyone goes through things like this, so you're not alone. one thing that may help is to try to do little things that make you happy, take small steps. when i was feeling depressed after high school, even though it was hard, i tried to stay active, force myself to hang out with people that i loved and made me smile, eat things that i liked, etc. sometimes it's good to do things that push u out of your comfort zone, even if you don't feel like it because it brings you out of your head. important thing, as i said before, is to remember that you're not along. a lot of people struggle with this, and you will get through it. a great site to check out is To Write Love On Her Arms: Link to twloha.com stay with it mate.

We met a woman named Trudy who was just diagnosed w breast cancer and was told she had 6 months to live. when we asked if there was anything she wanted to do before she died, she said yes but not for her, she wanted to help kids born w cancer - cause she had had 52 great years of life. we linked up w a group of kids under 12 with different types of cancer and took them on a shopping spree. trudy was one of those woman who had awesome energy, lit up a room when she walked in. she was very cool. here's shot of the kids: Link to farm3.staticflickr.com

Best advice would be if you have an idea or dream you want to go after. Don't think about it as a dream, think about it as project. Dreams have a way of staying dreams but projects get accomplished. And dont ever give up! Delaware and Arkansas are surprisingly beautiful. We toured the country in a big purple bus named Penelope which changed the way I saw places. I'll never forget the part from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance where talks about how seeing cities from a motorcycle means seeing them without a frame around them. You're "in" the city, as opposed to being outside looking in. Being in that bus for years on end has been similar, for me, in a way because we would cruise with the windows open and be able to walk around in it as we drove. It would also attract the attention of the locals wherever we went. It's a 1968 GMC Diesel Pusher, the same model as in the movie Speed (except it can't go over 50miles/hour). I'm off on a tangent. The point is, Delaware and Arkansas took my breath away. They were just so quiet and beautiful and American. EDIT: you said cities. I love Berlin and Montreal. They are places that remind you that anything is possible. You can live in downtown Montreal for $400 a month. That changes the dynamics of a city. It means artists and political thinkers can survive on a basic wage and commit deeply to their craft. In a time when many student's ambitions are being extinguished by debt, it's these cities I think we can turn to for leadership and innovation. There are many cities I haven't visited though. On the debt issue, which came up in another thread, I met with Peter Ludlow, a professor at UCLA, last month and he said the reason college kids don't protest like they did in the 60s is because of student debt. They can't afford to. He said his students run around in fear of one misstep. The way the economy has changed has made it even harder to get a second shot if god forbid you fall off the wagon at any point. To make matters worse, student debt is the only debt in the country that you can't default on. So.. you're hooked. It's a shame. I don't know what the solution is but I do hope it changes.

To be honest, for me personally, my latest goal has been to direct the first feature length film with a 360 degree camera. I've been into this oculus rift stuff and have been working with a company called Centre Cam (Kickstarter Page: Link to www.kickstarter.com) It's a game changer. We traded beer for a restaurant voucher for a suit of armor rental at a costume shop (it's the only way we could afford to do it). Then we told the press in our town to come see it and kick off our "tour" To our surprise/horror.. they showed up. The next day it was on the front page of the newspaper and that was the 2nd thing off our list. There's a story somewhere out there you can see. +1 point if you can find it. It helped that we started it with our friends, it's always good to work with people you like. they pick you up when you're down. and honestly, we didn't think about it too much, we just took a road trip and starting crossing off list items and helping people and it grew from there. if you just start doing it, taking small steps, you'll figure it out. good luck and have fun. -ben.
We started a production company and have been creating new tv shows, living and working in Venice, CA. we're going to Italy tomorrow and bringing someone with us (Link to bit.ly) we're doing a lot of speaking at colleges, helping ppl and making vids like the one we made with Torri. we're working on #100: Go To Space. i'm working on my biceps, a little bit of tricep work, but mainly biceps. -ben.

I think the answer to your question is a deeply personal one for each person, but for me the answer may be that you cannot 'find' meaning in life, you have to make it. It is the process of discovering what makes you happy that makes you happy, even if your search begins with humble joys like laughing or enjoying a good meal. Oh god yes. I had to sit in a bathroom stall for 3 hours after sneaking into the premiere of Transformers 2 to try and get Ben a date with Megan Fox (#59 on the list). I would say I was shitting my pants but that wouldn't be necessary. I had the stall.
